Free delivery on selected products
An eligible product will be identified as including free delivery. The offer applies to the stated product and delivery area. Free delivery does not apply automatically to the whole basket or to every UK address. Check the delivery area exclusions and the charge shown at checkout before confirming your order. If a basket contains other goods, the applicable delivery charge will be shown before payment.
We do not add an unagreed delivery charge after purchase. If your address needs a delivery quote, contact us before ordering so we can confirm whether delivery is available and the price. Where an order cannot be supplied on the agreed basis, we will explain and refund the affected order rather than require you to accept an additional charge.
Dispatch and carrier transit times
Our usual aim is to dispatch orders within 2 to 3 working days of ordering. Working days are Monday to Friday, excluding bank holidays. If dispatch is expected to take more than 5 days, we will let you know.
Larger items are normally sent using APC’s 24-hour service; suitable parcels may use Royal Mail 48-hour tracked delivery. The 24-hour and 48-hour service names describe the carrier's expected transit time after dispatch, not the time from placing your order. Allow separately for the usual 2 to 3 working day dispatch period, and remember that transit estimates are not guaranteed arrival dates.
We send a dispatch email when the order is on its way. Give us a mobile number for carrier delivery updates. If a particular delivery date is essential, ask us before ordering and obtain written confirmation that we can meet it.
Delivery areas and postcode exclusions
The standard free-delivery area excludes Northern Ireland, the Isle of Wight and the Scottish postcode ranges below. Contact us before ordering to discuss availability and a delivery quote for these UK destinations. Availability depends on the postcode, plant dimensions and carrier arrangements. We will confirm whether your chosen plants can be transported to the address before you place the order.
This store offers UK delivery only. We do not offer delivery to the Republic of Ireland or the Channel Islands.

Your address and receiving the delivery
Check the postcode, house number or property name and contact details carefully. Tell us about restricted access, an unmarked entrance or other information that a driver will need. Standard carrier delivery does not include planting or moving hedging through your house or garden. Arrange suitable help if you have ordered large plants, particularly taller Leylandii or rootball yew.
Make arrangements for someone to receive the order. A carrier may require a signature or follow its own delivery instructions. If you need to change the address after ordering, contact us promptly; a change may no longer be possible once the parcel is in transit.
When your plants arrive
Unpack plants promptly and inspect them. Check moisture around the roots and water as appropriate, keeping plants protected until you can plant them. Keep the order label and packaging long enough to confirm that everything ordered has arrived.
If something is damaged, missing or incorrect, email photographs and your order reference to info@gardenhedges.co.uk. Prompt photographs help us understand transit damage, but there is no short reporting deadline that takes away your statutory rights.
Delayed or missing orders
Contact us on 0333 533 0162 or email info@gardenhedges.co.uk if tracking is unclear or your order appears overdue. We will investigate with the carrier. For consumer orders using our carrier arrangements, responsibility remains with us until you or your nominated recipient takes physical possession.
The delivery rights in our terms apply if an agreed deadline is missed or goods are not delivered. Contact us rather than arranging replacement plants at your own expense without first discussing the problem.
Common questions
Which plant delivery company is the best in the UK?
There is no single best carrier for every order. We select the service that suits the size and weight of your plants. Larger consignments normally travel with APC’s 24-hour service, while suitable smaller parcels go with Royal Mail 48-hour tracked delivery. Both provide tracking updates. The carrier depends on the destination and the weight and dimensions of the consignment. Smaller potted shrubs may travel as parcels, while larger hedging plants need a service capable of handling their size.
Do I need to be in when my hedging plants arrive?
It helps if someone can receive the parcel. A carrier may require a signature or follow its own delivery instructions, so arranging for a person to be present avoids delays. If nobody is available, the courier will usually leave a card with redelivery or collection options. If you ask for delivery to a nominated person or location, consider how securely the plants can be received. For consumer orders using our carrier, responsibility normally remains with us until you or your nominated recipient takes physical possession, subject to the applicable legal rules.
What should I do if my plants arrive damaged or dry?
Unpack the plants straight away and inspect them. If any are damaged, missing or incorrect, email photographs and your order reference to info@gardenhedges.co.uk. Check the moisture around the roots and water gently if the compost feels dry, then keep the plants sheltered until you can plant. Prompt photographs help us identify transit problems, but there is no short reporting deadline that affects your statutory rights.
What is the best month to plant a hedge?
For bare root hedging such as privet and hawthorn, the usual planting period is November to March, while the plants are dormant. Potted hedging can be planted over a wider period, although autumn and spring usually provide cooler soil and more dependable moisture. Bare root hedging plants are only available during the dormant season, roughly November to March. Container-grown hedging can be planted throughout the year if the ground is workable and watering is available. Rootball hedging, including the larger English yew options, is generally best planted during the cooler dormant season to limit moisture loss and disturbance to the roots.
Can I choose a delivery date for a planting day?
We aim to dispatch orders within 2 to 3 working days, but this is a dispatch target rather than a guaranteed timetable. Standard carrier services cannot guarantee arrival on a particular date, so avoid scheduling contractors solely around an estimated delivery. If a particular delivery date is essential, contact us before ordering and obtain written confirmation that we can meet it. Giving a mobile number at checkout helps you receive carrier updates, so you can plan around the expected arrival.
